    As one English forward calls time on his Raiders career, another is set to begin his own NRL dream.

    Promising second-rower Matty Nicholson will tread the well-worn path from England's Super League to Canberra in 2025 after signing a three-year contract with the club on Friday.

    At age 20, the Warrington Wolves starter is already an England international and he will provide some much-needed cover for Ricky Stuart's forward pack after skipper Elliott Whitehead announced 2024 will be his last year at the club.

    Raiders confirm highly-anticipated signing of England international

    Canberra Raiders sign England's Matty Nicholson and extend NRLW favorite's contract in capital.

    The Canberra Raiders have confirmed the signing of England international Matty Nicholson as well as locking in an NRLW fan favourite to stay in the capital on a multi-year deal.

    Nicholson has been linked to Canberra for some time, but on Friday the signing news became official with the club announcing he will join the Green Machine next season on a three-year deal.

    "The Raiders have had some wonderful success in having young English players come to Canberra and establish themselves as NRL stars," Raiders chief executive Don Furner said.

    Elliott Whitehead is vowing to lead the Raiders back into NRL finals contention before he leaves Canberra at season's end to take up a UK Super League deal.

    The veteran forward has confirmed he will leave the Raiders at the end of the season as he closes in on his 200th match for the club.

    The Catalans Dragons - who have signed outgoing Raiders winger Nick Cotric - and Hull FC have been vying for Whitehead's signature, with the English international preparing to bring down the curtain on his NRL career.
