Canberra faces injury setbacks, including Ethan Strange, as they prepare for a crucial match against Gold Coast.

    The Canberra Times

Canberra's hopes of igniting their NRL minor premiership defence with a victory against Gold Coast have taken a hammering with five-eighth Ethan Strange ruled out with injury.

After sustaining an ankle niggle against the Wests Tigers last round, Strange had one more opportunity to prove his fitness at training on Thursday, but did not complete the session.

It means he will not play on Saturday in Queensland, although the Raiders are targeting a return for next Sunday's clash against Penrith.

Strange's loss will further stretch Canberra's depth with Noah Martin (ankle), Zac Hosking (concussion), Josh Papali'i (calf), Hudson Young (suspension) and Xavier Savage (ankle) out of the Titans game.

Ethan Strange is out for the Raiders against the Titans due to an ankle injury; Daine Laurie likely to start.

The Canberra Raiders have confirmed that star five-eighth Ethan Strange has been ruled out of this weekend's game against the Gold Coast Titans due to an ankle injury.

The 21-year-old playmaker suffered an ankle injury in last week's loss against the Tigers; however, he returned to the field to carry out the rest of the game.

Although the Raiders are yet to confirm who will now partner Ethan Sanders in the halves, Daine Laurie is expected to slot into the role.

Laurie made his debut for the club last weekend.

Canberra's young stars must pass training to face the Titans, crucial amidst multiple player injuries.

    The Canberra Times

It's D-day for two of the Canberra Raiders young stars, with Thursday afternoon's training set to decide their Gold Coast fate.

It's also the first moving part in how the Green Machine plan to cover their injury woes against the Titans on Saturday.

Simi Sasagi (hamstring) and Ethan Strange (ankle) both need to get through training if they're going to face the Titans, with Raiders hooker Jayden Brailey confident the pair would be fit for the Gold Coast.

It would be a massive boost for Canberra if they are, given the Raiders already have Hudson Young (suspended), Josh Papali'i (calf), Xavier Savage (ankle), Noah Martin (ankles), Zac Hosking (concussion) and Matty Nicholson (shoulder) on the sidelines.
