All the signs pointed Leo Thompson back to Canberra. Here’s why he chose the Bulldogs

Leo Thompson's return to Canberra makes sense; the Raiders recruited him from New Zealand rugby in 2020, influenced by his partner Jazmin and close friends.

    The Sydney Morning Herald

It made so much sense for Leo Thompson to return to Canberra.

The Raiders first recruited the prop from New Zealand rugby, where he was playing as a heavyweight inside centre, for their Jersey Flegg side in 2020.

Thompson had never watched a game of league until the Raiders' late recruitment guru, Peter Mulholland, picked up the phone.

Thompson's partner, Jazmin, grew up in Canberra. And some of his best mates, with whom he worked in demolition during the COVID pandemic, still lived in the nation's capital.

    Rivals Deny Lomax Signing Speculation

Canberra Raiders CEO denies interest in signing Zac Lomax, confirming no contact or roster plans.

    LeagueNews.co

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner has clarified that the club has no interest in signing Zac Lomax, contrary to recent speculation. Reports emerged from the Supreme Court indicating that the Raiders were one of three teams vying for the NSW representative's signature after he left the Parramatta Eels.

However, the Raiders have quickly dismissed these claims, asserting that they have not made any contact with the talented outside-back. Lomax recently exited his four-year contract with the Eels after just one year, which has fueled rumors that he may join the new rebel competition, R360.

With the launch of R360 postponed until 2028, Lomax finds himself in a difficult position with few options available for the immediate future. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the Raiders are not in a position to pursue Lomax and have no plans to include him in their roster.

"Nobody has spoken about him, he's never been mentioned," Furner stated. "We haven't got any space in the cap, and we're not looking for outside backs. I don't know how they can make that up. That's a lie."

“That’s a lie”: Rivals slam Lomax speculation after being linked in legal battle

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner denied any interest in signing Zac Lomax, stating the club won't pursue him despite earlier speculation surrounding his contract situation.

    Zero Tackle

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner has set the record straight, claiming his club has had no interest in signing Zac Lomax.

It was revealed in the Supreme Court that the Raiders were one of the three teams looking to sign the NSW representative after leaving the Parramatta Eels.

This comes after Lomax broke out of his four-year contract with the Eels after 12 months, with speculation mounting that he was going to sign with rebel competition R360.

With R360's launch being delayed until 2028, it has left Lomax in limbo with limited options until then.
