Halasima proves himself after late call up

The Warriors won 60-4 against the Raiders, with Leka Halasima excelling after a last-minute promotion due to injury.

The New Zealand Warriors overcame a late pre-game injury and a string of disruptions during the match to deliver a dominant 60-4 victory over the Canberra Raiders on Friday afternoon, securing back-to-back home wins to start the season.

It marks just the fourth time in the club's history that they have won their opening two matches.

The standout performance came from 20-year-old second rower, Leka Halasima, who was given barely a minute's notice that he would be playing a full 80-minute role.

Originally named on the bench in jersey No.16, Halasima was suddenly promoted to the starting side after veteran forward Kurt Capewell suffered a calf injury in the warm-up. The young forward was tasked with stepping straight into the second row and responded with one of the best performances of his young career.

Too many penalties and too many errors.

Hudson Young said the Canberra Raiders need to fix their discipline - with and without the ball - before their first home game of the season, against Canterbury at Canberra Stadium on Thursday night.

He hopes it will be in front of a big crowd, in a rematch of last year's crazy game against the Bulldogs.

Young said the Green Machine put itself under too much pressure by giving away penalties and possession - especially inside their defensive 20m.

Jamal Fogarty's second game for Manly aims to bring consistency as he replaces Daly Cherry-Evans, addressing past struggles in maintaining leads.

    The Canberra Times

Jake Trbojevic believes Jamal Fogarty's steady hand as an organising playmaker can finally help end Manly's long and desperate search for consistency.

Fogarty will have his second outing for Manly in Sunday's clash with Newcastle, as he fills the biggest shoes in rugby league by replacing one of the Sea Eagles' greatest ever No.7s in Daly Cherry-Evans.

Last week's opening-round loss that was emblematic of Manly's past few years, marking the sixth time since the start of 2014 they have surrendered a lead of 14 points or more.

Consistency has long been an issue within games and across rounds, with Manly holding a far superior record against top-four teams over the past two years as opposed to bottom four.
