Harry Grant, rugby league's top hooker, was surprisingly omitted from NRL's Team of the Year.

    Wide World of Sports

The undisputed best hooker in rugby league was a surprise snub from the NRL's Team of the Year on Wednesday night.

Storm superstar Harry Grant was overlooked for the No.9 jersey as the team of 13 was unveiled at the Dally M awards ceremony in Randwick.

Grant was the unanimous pick for hooker when Wide World of Sports selected its own Team of the Year at the conclusion of the regular season.

  • Tim Sheen's legacy looms large over the NRL Grand Final

Craig Bellamy, a competitive utility player, excelled with the Raiders and later coached successfully.

    Region Canberra

As a player with the Canberra Raiders in the 1980s to early 1990s, Craig Bellamy was a battler.

Performing well above his weight in the star-studded Raiders team of the late 1980s, Bellamy was the hardest trainer I have seen in my 36 years of covering the team.

A utility player capable of performing anywhere from fullback to lock, Bellamy pushed himself to the extreme in an effort to extract the maximum out of his body. He was also extremely competitive.

He went on to play 150 games for the Raiders, as well as coaching the Presidents Cup team to the premiership in 1995.

Broncos v Panthers Preliminary Final preview

The Broncos bounced back to the top four, overcoming injuries and a rocky season.

    League Unlimited

Sliding into the top four after a massive win over the Melbourne Storm in Round 27, the Broncos had an up and down season. They started strong, winning five of their first eight games, before hitting a rough patch, losing four straight games - a poor performance against Manly in Round 13 (losing 34-6) making it seem like their campaign might just be over. For the rest of the home and away season, across twelve matches, Brisbane only lost twice - Round 21 against the Eels and Round 23 against the Storm. They found their form, despite having a plethora of injuries banking up. The qualifying final victory against the Raiders was one for the ages, and somehow despite 'losing' twice, they came out on the other side, booking a home preliminary final up at the Cauldron.

Michael Maguire has named a slightly changed side, with many core players returning from injury. Adam Reynolds returns to halfback, which shifts Ben Hunt to five-eighth in place of injured Billy Walters. With Pat Carrigan out with a one game suspension, Tyson Smoothy moves into starting lock. Ezra Mam and Xavier Willison join the bench, which sees freshly re-signed interchange forward Jaiyden Hunt drop out of the starting 17.
