Conflicting claims as cops fight Raiders star assault case
NRL star Tom Starling alleges police assaulted him, leading to concussion and injury, amid conflicting accounts of the incident.

Whether a NRL star was pulled down from a stage by police officers or jumped on them from a height is a key question in the trial of two officers charged with assault.
Evan Huw Prowse and Steven Lockwood Brown have both pleaded not guilty to the common assault of Canberra Raiders hooker Tom Starling at a 21st birthday party in December 2020.
Starling, his brothers Jackson and Josh and friend Jesse Byrne, had originally been charged with assaulting police and resisting arrest after a drunken night out on the NSW Central Coast.

Their best player of the 2026 NRL season is set to spend another month on the sidelines, especially when they're 14^th on the NRL ladder and two wins outside the eight.
That's the update provided by Raiders centre Matt Timoko ahead of the Green Machine's crunch clash against the Eels in Parramatta on Saturday.
The Raiders will be without NSW duo Hudson Young and Ethan Strange, and Savelio Tamale (concussion), plus Timoko said Simi Sasagi (shoulder) was still a distance away from return.

Raiders star Hudson Young has opened up about his contract options after Canberra officials made a key move in a bid to prevent him from entering free agency.
It can be revealed that Young's agent Sam Ayoub was in Canberra last weekend meeting with coach Ricky Stuart and club chief executive officer Don Furner.
It was on the sidelines of a first grade footy match at Woden Park on Saturday that the trio got together, and the NSW Blues back-rower coming off contract after the 2027 NRL season was a key subject of discussion.
Young has declared his desire to continue to play under Stuart at the Raiders long-term.
