Joe Tapine was shocked by Corey Horsburgh's State of Origin omission and the Canberra Raiders captain said it created a monster for their opponents.

Horsburgh's produced a strong start to the NRL season as part of a Raiders team that's sitting third on the ladder.

But Queensland coach Billy Slater opted for other forward options whose statistics were inferior to Horsburgh's - including three forwards from the last-placed Gold Coast Titans.

Raiders rookie Noah Martin debuts against Warriors, replacing Hudson Young; Simi Sasagi starts in his place.

From backyard footy to the NRL - one Raiders rookie handed the first-game baton to his younger brother on Tuesday as Ricky Stuart prepares to blood Noah Martin at a New Zealand cauldron this weekend.

Martin will play his first game for the Raiders in the clash against the Warriors on Sunday afternoon, added to the bench in a forward-pack shuffle to accommodate the absence of Origin star Hudson Young.

Simi Sasagi moves into the starting team to replace Young, while Martin joins the bench for the first time.
