    There is officially one round to go in the NRL regular season and while seven teams have secured a finals berth, there's still plenty to play for across the board.

    Canberra locked in the minor premiership with a win over the Wests Tigers and it looks like a number of their stars will be rested for round 27 - which could in turn open the door for another desperate team to sneak into the top-eight.

    The race for fourth spot is a battle between three and there will be no easy games for the teams in the mix when they take the field this weekend.

    We all know when the AFL Grand Final is - the last Saturday in September. While AFL bigwigs have flirted with changing the date and the traditional afternoon starting siren, sentiment and fear of a lynching prevailed.

    But with the NRL final eight just about sorted, already battered rugby league players now endure a macabre Russian roulette to survive the last round this weekend.

    It's been 35 years since Ricky Stuart won the minor premiership as a Canberra Raiders player. Now, he has led the team to the same achievement as their head coach.

    The celebrations in Canberra were grand from the final siren as the Raiders claimed an 24-10 victory over the Wests Tigers.

    The Raiders were put to the test from the get-go but survived a late series of attacking plays from their rivals to cement their spot at the top of the ladder.
