  • 'Nearly like Stuart and Daley': Billy Slater's enormous call on 'old-school' Raiders young guns

    Newcastle Knights

Billy Slater praises Canberra's young halves, likening them to club greats, while Ethan Sanders shines in his debut performance.

    Wide World of Sports

Billy Slater has delivered some monumental praise for Canberra's young halves pairing, likening them to two of the club's all-time greats.

Ethan Sanders stole the show in round one, kicking a field goal in golden-point to sink Manly after taking the No.7 jumper from Jamal Fogarty.

The man opposing him on Saturday night in his first game for the Green Machine - quite poetically - was Fogarty, who signed with the Sea Eagles on a multi-year deal.

  • The Mole: 'Enigmatic' David Fifita stakes early claim for 'buy of the year' after Wayne Bennett gamble

    Newcastle Knights

    Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

Joseph Tapine's dangerous tackle on Tom Trbojevic ignited a brawl, featuring Corey Horsburgh throwing a punch at Haumole Olakau'atu.

    Wide World of Sports

Canberra captain Joseph Tapine laid a dangerous tackle on Manly superstar Tom Trbojevic on Saturday afternoon, sparking a melee in which Raiders firebrand Corey Horsburgh threw a punch.

The clash at Brookvale Oval turned fiery in the ninth minute when Tapine picked up Trbojevic and drove the fullback into the rain-sodden turf with a lifting tackle.

Haumole Olakau'atu raced in to give it back to Tapine and was met by the eruptive Horsburgh, who with a clenched right fist tried to hit the Sea Eagles enforcer.

No immediate disciplinary action was taken against Horsburgh. How the NRL's match review committee handles the indiscretion remains to be seen.
