Queensland coach Billy Slater praises Raiders' Xavier Savage, sees potential for State of Origin selection.

Queensland coach Billy Slater believes playing State of Origin is "not beyond" Raiders young gun Xavier Savage, but admitted there is still plenty of room to improve.

Savage starred for the Green Machine in their season opener on Sunday, scoring two tries in the 30-8 victory over the Warriors, including a long-range intercept.

He also finished with 219 run metres and seven tackle breaks at Allegiant Stadium.

Hudson Young, in the moments after Canberra's win against at Allegiant Stadium, is asked if he will celebrate with a few beers.

"I've gotta keep a lid on it," Young grinned.

For Young, the biggest story during the NRL's second foray into Vegas, this is the key to success. In the past, if he were involved in an incident like the one involving himself and Raiders teammate Morgan Smithies, he would have overcompensated on the field in a bid to atone.

Hudson Young proved to himself how much he has matured with a starring performance for Canberra in the days following his highly-publicised Las Vegas brawl.

Young and teammate Morgan Smithies caused the only major off-field controversy of the NRL's second Vegas trip by wrestling each other in the hotel elevator after a night out.
