LAS VEGAS: The Warriors are preparing themselves for a classic Ricky Stuart ambush when their season kicks off in Vegas on Sunday (AEDT).

The Kiwi team are hot favourites in the eyes of both the bookies and the punters for the huge season opener in Sin City, with little love for Canberra.

But Stuart has been in this position many times before and Warriors coach Andrew Webster has warned his players that the ambush is a big danger.

Rugby league chairman talks with Trump's office about attending NRL games, potential historic breakthrough for sport.

Rugby league supremo Peter V'landys has revealed his team has been chatting "backwards and forwards" with Donald Trump's office since he launched his audacious bid to lure the US president to this year's NRL games in Las Vegas.

V'landys, the chairman of the ARL Commission, also declared that if Trump popped up at Allegiant Stadium to watch the two matches it would mark "the biggest breakthrough for rugby league ever".

9News was at Sydney Airport on Tuesday morning to quiz V'landys on his ambitious pursuit, which even culminated in the heavy-hitter spruiking rugby league and inviting Trump to the games on breakfast television in America.

Canberra Raiders duo Hudson Young and Morgan Smithies returned to their Las Vegas hotel after a night out in Sin City and did what many footy players in their mid-20s would to settle an argument - wrestle.

The prize for the winner was the one bed on offer after Smithies was left room-less following a check-in bungle that has plagued the NRL's official Vegas accommodation partner, Resorts World.
