    Canberra Raiders skipper Elliott Whitehead will need to fight a three-match suspension at the judiciary if he is to play in the NRL again after he was slapped with the ban in the bitter fallout of the Raiders-Roosters clash.

    Whitehead was hit with three match review charges on Monday morning - the most significant a three-match ban for his hip-drop tackle on Brandon Smith.

    The Roosters fear Smith has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, but it's unclear if the Whitehead tackle or an earlier incident caused the injury.

    Canberra's Elliott Whitehead faces lengthy ban and fines for multiple incidents in game against Sydney Roosters.

    Canberra's Elliott Whitehead has been hit with a lengthy ban and up to $5000 in fines for three separate incidents on Sunday, including a hip-drop tackle on Sydney Roosters' hooker Brandon Smith that is feared to have ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

    Whitehead, who is off to Super League next year, has been slapped with a minimum three-game suspension for the dangerous contact, along with a minimum $3600 in fines for tripping James Tedesco and contrary conduct on Angus Crichton.
