If there is one team the NRL's premiership heavyweights want to avoid in the finals series, "it's the Canberra Raiders".

Because a shock win over the Penrith Panthers means Canberra's top eight ambitions still have a pulse in the race to the finals - but they need the bring down another top four contender and hope other results go their way to get there.

The Raiders will go behind enemy lines to face the second-placed Sydney Roosters and eighth-placed St George Illawarra on the road to the finals, but even three consecutive wins might not be enough to get Canberra into the eight.

There comes a time in every athlete's career where the equation comes down to age versus experience.

Do coaches want 22-year-olds such as Xavier Savage who can score a try out of nowhere, or do they want some old heads who know what to do when things need to get done?

Sure, in an ideal world, there's a mix of both. But leading into finals time, experience should never be underrated.
