    The Canberra Raiders' season appeared to be on life support after three consecutive defeats, but they produced their performance of the year to upset the Penrith Panthers 22-18 at Canberra Stadium on Saturday.

    It's kept their slim finals hopes alive, but if they win their final two games then they're a chance.

    Raiders score first with a try from Savage, Penrith responds with a try from Sommerton.

    The Raiders scored first after just 5 minutes when Savage caught a bomb by Jamal Fogarty near the right sideline, spun out of a tackle and then sprinted 20 metres down the sideline and reached out to score a brilliant try. Fogarty failed to convert in the blustery conditions from out wide.

    Penrith responded 5 minutes later when Luke Sommerton barged over from dummy half to score. Dylan Edwards converted.

    The next 10 minutes saw both sides concede a barrage of penalties. In the 20th minute Daine  Laurie got put into space and he dived for the corner but his foot just touched the sideline in the tackle from Sebastian Kris just before he grounded the ball.

    Penrith are a chance of dropping to as low as fourth on the ladder by the end of the round after Canberra stunned the premiers 22-18 on Saturday afternoon. The Green Machine kept their own slim finals hopes alive.

    Penrith looked in cruise control until Xavier Savage scored a 90m intercept try with seven minutes remaining. Matt Timoko snatched a Jarome Luai pass out of the air, sprinted 50m, then offloaded to his winger to do the rest.
