Raiders finally get some good news in mission to break ugly losing streak

Canberra Raiders excited for return of key players Fogarty and Hosking after bye week.

    The Canberra Times

The Canberra Raiders might be hurting, but it was music to the ears of Green Machine fans and the playing squad alike to hear Ricky Stuart confirm their troops are finally set to return.

Stuart said halfback Jamal Fogarty and second-rower Zac Hosking will both be available for selection following the bye this week.

"It's great. I think people underestimate the influence Jamal has had on the football team," Stuart said on the Nine broadcast before the Raiders went down 16-12 to the Knights on Sunday.

Maroons resist Ricky's calls for Papali'i to come out of retirement

Queensland declined to include Papali'i in Origin squad, despite support from Raiders coach.

    The Canberra Times

Queensland have resisted the urge to bring Josh Papali'i back into the State of Origin arena despite calls from Raiders coach Ricky Stuart.

Maroons coach Billy Slater named his squad for the Origin decider on Monday morning but Papali'i, a 23-game Queensland representative, was not included.

Papali'i retired from State of Origin early last year, however Stuart was so impressed by the tireless effort and consistently strong performance of the 32-year-old that he backed him for the state-versus-state battle again.

Raiders go down to 'Origin Gagai' in tough Knight out

Ponga's return overshadowed by Gagai's Origin-like performance, Raiders suffer fourth consecutive loss.

    The Canberra Times

All the talk was around Kalyn Ponga's return and State of Origin, but the Canberra Raiders were on the wrong end of Origin Gagai instead.

Newcastle centre Dane Gagai produced a performance more akin to his efforts in a Queensland jersey than a Knights one - scoring a match-winning brace in Newcastle's 16-12 victory at Canberra Stadium on Sunday.

It marked the Raiders' fourth loss in a row as they struggled to win the territory battle against the visitors.
