Whitehead felt nerves, punters endured cold, Raiders beat Warriors 20-18, Stuart admits luck.

Elliott Whitehead could feel the nerves racing through his body. The puffer jacket-clad punters figured they'd have to withstand the freezing conditions for just a little longer, because surely we were bound for golden point.

Then Chanel Harris-Tavita's conversion attempt - just to the left of the posts - somehow sailed across the face of goal. The Canberra Raiders held onto a 20-18 lead, and the New Zealand Warriors would fly home empty-handed.

"We were lucky, we were really lucky," Raiders coach Ricky Stuart after Canberra snapped a four-game losing streak in front of 8509 fans at Canberra Stadium on Friday night.

Raiders dominate error-filled game, early tries give them the edge over struggling Warriors.

In what was an error-ridden game, it was the Raiders who came out of the gates firing first. Jamal Fogarty made sure everyone watching knew he was back with only his second bomb of the game, causing Taine Tuaupiki to knock on, giving them prime position early in the Warriors quarter, and in no time, Hudson Young took his frame to the line and got results in the 6th minute.

The Warriors looked to hit back after the try but lost their way, giving the Raiders back-to-back penalties. Fogarty took advantage of the space up the middle again, finding Hudson Young present and fast going over for his second at 10 minutes in.

At the 13-minute mark, the Warriors were dealt a blow, with Taine Tuaupiki having to leave the game with a Category 1 concussion, causing a re-shuffle. The Warriors tried to get an attack going but were not coming up with anything troubling.

The return of halfback Jamal Fogarty has helped keep the Raiders' ailing campaign alive following their 20-18 win of the Warriors.

The Raiders looked revitalised early on with their star playmaker back at the helm, in his first appearance since suffering a biceps injury in Round 7. Fogarty's kicking game was particularly immense for Canberra as he forced two Warriors errors that resulted in points.
