The Rabbitohs' 2024 season may be quickly unravelling but South Sydney has made a key move towards a brighter future, signing English premiership-winning halfback Lewis Dodd for the next three seasons.

The transfer was first floated late last month, casting doubt over the injured Lachlan Ilias' future at the club in the process, and was confirmed by the Rabbitohs on Sunday afternoon.

Ilias is contracted until the end of the 2025 season but has been told he is free to negotiate with rival clubs.

Hudson Young's State of Origin selection chances have been given a major boost with a glowing endorsement from a rugby league Immortal.

Blues legend Andrew Johns believes the "dynamite" Canberra Raiders second-rower should be included in the NSW squad wherever possible after his game-winning try for the Green Machine against Manly.

"He's a try-scorer," Johns said on Nine's Sunday Footy Show.
