‘Huge loss’: Growing fears Chiefs to poach another Origin star as Nov 1 tensions build

The PNG Chiefs aim to recruit NRL stars, eyeing Hudson Young after signing Brian To'o and others for 2028.

    Fox League

Twenty-four hours after confirming the signing of Brian To'o, the PNG Chiefs have already set their sights on poaching another NRL star.

The expansion club have made a major statement over the past couple of months, securing the signatures of To'o, Jarome Luai, Alex Johnston, Connor Watson, Matty Lees and Zac Lomax.

But their recruitment drive appears to be far from over as they look to assemble one of the greatest squads the NRL has ever seen to compete for a premiership immediately upon entering in 2028.

Already linked with Joseph Manu (who is set to confirm his future over the next few days), CODE Sports reporter David Riccio has revealed that the Chiefs have now identified NSW Blues back-rower Hudson Young as a potential target.

Although recent reports indicated that he had been tabled a multi-million-dollar extension from the Raiders, it is understood that there are fears that he could leave the nation's capital.

Canberra Raiders manager meets Hudson Young's agent to discuss contract amid PNG Chiefs' interest in luring him by 2028.

    The Canberra Times

A meeting with Hudson Young's manager is set to give the Canberra Raiders a sense of whether he's tempted by PNG's tax-free dollars.

The Raiders are in talks with Young's manager Sam Ayoub about a three-year extension, which would keep their future captain in the capital until at least 2030.

But the PNG Chiefs are reportedly interested in luring the NSW Blues second-rower to Port Moresby when the expansion club enters the NRL in 2028.

The news comes after there were rumours Canberra prop Corey Horsburgh met with Perth Bears coach Mal Meninga in the fallout from his fallout with Raiders coach Ricky Stuart.
