    Canberra Raiders NRLW Coach Darrin Borthwick says he's proud of the six debutantes named for round one and is confident they'll rise to the occasion in front of a home crowd at GIO Stadium Canberra on Saturday.

    The Green Machine will kick off their 2025 season with a triple-header in Canberra and Borthwick said the energy around the squad has been building steadily through a strong pre-season.

    Women's rugby league is growing rapidly, attracting fans and opportunities, but still needs more male support and respect.

    Women's sport and the NRLW has come so very far in a quick period of time, converting and attracting new fans to the game, providing opportunity for girls in rugby league that simply weren't there before, and with the player union support to ensure those involved are treated fairly.

    But while there are many positives to the rise of women's rugby league, on the week of round one of the 2025 NRLW season, there were not-so-subtle hints that there remains a long way to go in getting some of the code's fanbase - particularly males - to get on board.

    Or at the very least show a bit more respect to women's rugby league.
