Without Video Ezy John Lomax may never have become the Canberra Raiders legend he is revered as today.

The thundering forward and former Kiwi captain is renowned for his tough-as-guts playing style during Canberra's most successful era, especially alongside friend and teammate Quentin Pongia who was recruited with him from New Zealand by Tim Sheens.

Playing 65 games for the Green Machine between 1993-1996 before stints at the North Queensland Cowboys and Melbourne Storm, Lomax was instrumental in Canberra's run to the 1994 grand final.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos captain-coach Sam Williams said losing two club legends Rodger Tate and Brian Fitzgerald over the last fortnight inspired their dominant victory over the West Belconnen Warriors to stay undefeated in the Canberra Raiders Cup.

The hosts were dominant from the outset on their way to a 44-6 triumph at Freebody Oval on Saturday, but this meant more than your normal triumph.

"There's no doubt that whenever someone like those guys pass away you want to try to do them proud, and our defence in the first half especially reflected that," Williams said.

Zero Tackle

The North Queensland Cowboys have officially signed Semi Valemei from the Canberra Raiders for the next year and a half.

The winger, who can also line up in the centres, is a Fijian representative, but has struggled to find his way into first-grade action at the Raiders at recent times.

Making his NRL debut for the Green Machine in Round 10 of the 2020 season, Valemei has played 29 games for the Raiders, with ten of those coming in his rookie year.

He played 11 in 2021, 8 last year, and is yet to feature this year, sitting behind a backline which has featured the likes of Sebastian Kris, Matthew Timoko, Jarrod Croker, Albert Hopoate, Jordan Rapana and Nick Cotric.
